Thesis subject

"Evolution of semiaquatic hippopotamoids postcranial skeleton during the Cenozoic: impact of environmental changes on wetlands and phylogeny"

Ph. D supervisors: Stéphane DUCROCQ, Jean-Renaud BOISSERIE (iPHEP, Poitiers) and Fabrice LIHOREAU (ISEM, Montpellier)

Research activities

Keywords: Hippopotamoidea, biomechanics, locomotion, geometric morphometrics, histology, aridification, Chad.

Theme: Adaptation of the postcranial skeleton in hippopotamoids in response to aridification and wetland fragmentation during the Cenozoic. Characterization of locomotor functional constraints and abilities in aquatic and subaquatic environments by biomechanical studies. Identification of phylogenetically informative postcranial characters and revision of hippopotamoids phylogeny.
